VISION: Julian Harriman-Dickinson
Julian started as a young gun at design group Tomato before working at the most innovative advertising agencies of the 90’s such as Lowe Howard Spink & both Mother and KesselKramer in their agency infancy, where he worked as an Art Director across clients including Diesel, Reebok, Smirnoff, Stella Artois, Audi and Vauxhall.
He then moved into directing commercials and music videos through Arden Sutherland Dodd, including videos for the Chemical Brothers, Radiohead, Leftfield and TV commercials for Louis Vuitton, Q Magazine, Sony Playstation, TDK, Reebok, Heineken, ITVDigital, and Smirnoff.
He co-founded HarrimanSteel in 1999 with Nick Steel, an independent creative agency in both London & Amsterdam where he now sits as Executive Creative Director. Specialising in what we call ‘Amplified Retail’, we take the principles of selling and apply that artfully to every part of the comms mix, from the bottom up as opposed to the traditional top down approach. We help refine 'Business as Usual', to unlock Business as Un-usual. Clients include Nike, Patagonia, Sonos, Converse, Garmin & Swatch.
The sum of the parts is greater than the whole
I will be talking about scope creep and gaining client trust and how this is an accumulative process, as it is hard to do meaningful and transformative work without becoming a vested partner in your clients’ endeavours. This is about creativity that makes business sense; and makes sense of business. We try to seek out the pirates within; after all it’s better to be a pirate than join the Navy!
