We're helping to bring Social Media Week back to Bristol this year, along with many of our members taking to the stage. It's a busy schedule, so to help you plan your time, here are twelve highlights to help you navigate the week ahead.

Twelve Highlights To Help You Navigate The Week  

  • 2018 is the year of the influencer! Where are the influencers in your business?  Synergy Creative will help you find them!  Do you need a digital influencer or a celebrity ambassador?  Book into our influencer summit to find out what the PRCA and friends have to say! What happens if it all goes wrong? Fat Media explore with a high profile panel what brand or influencer should do if a relationship turns bad!
  • Strong event line up for startups, SME’s and wannabe entrepreneurs! ‘Business West Wednesday’ is bringing in Apprentice star and owner of Climb Online, Mark Wright to ask ‘Is Organic Social Reach Dead?’ This event is supported by stories from local heroes Aardman, Trunki and This Mum Runs. Enterprise Nation’s Small Business Social Media Summit (which sold out in 2016) returns with a stellar line up of speakers including a representative from Facebook’s  #SheMeansBusiness campaign.
  • Just want some decent know how?  Check out dedicated ‘skill up’ sessions on building your instagram community with Instagram Influencer, Jess Siggers; starting and promoting a blog with Heather Cowper from Bristol Bloggers & Influencer Community; and Google Garage’s FREE social media strategy and writing for social media course. Explore beyond ‘voice’ with Craig Pugsley from Just Eat as he educates us on conversational user interfaces and voice-enabled apps!  
  • Social Media Grows Up Twitter join us at APG West’s session analysing social’s teen years. Facebook is 18 years old. Twitter nearly 12. Social is experiencing a period of change. Find out how to overcome fake news, filter bubbles, attention spans and algorithms, information overload and identity politics.
  • Looking for lead generation or seeking advice on business-to-business social then check out session by award winning author and instructor for, Luan Wise! Hear from Alison Edgar, The Entrepreneurs Godmother on The Secrets of Social Selling!  Seek out Ambitious PR’s session on what professional service firms can do to overcome traditional mindsets and regulatory and legal challenges?
  • Going dippy over social data? You need to be at the DMA’s session on social data, which covers management of social media data across platforms, measuring results, integrating social data with other marketing and GDPR compliance.
  • Automation vs. authenticity. These hot topics such as are explored in dedicated sessions hosted by e3 and Noisy Little Monkey.
  • Step off the ‘stuff-generating’ treadmill, True Digital encourage us to take a more strategic and creative approach to content to garner better results. SearchStar will urge us to go beyond sponsored posts and explore brand and performance advertising on social.
  • The power of placemaking. VisitBristol will explore the power of collaboration and open up insights on their social media and content strategy, explaining how businesses across the city can help amplify the messages that Bristol is one of Europe’s top visitor destinations with speakers from Digital Visitor, Noble Studios and Crowdriff.
  • Grow overseas through social and digital communication.  Business West Wednesday has dedicated sessions on navigating social media in China and 121 sessions with International Trade Advisors on seeking expansion through social.
  • Working in a non-profit or a charity? Rules of Engagement Showcase features best practice from Cancer Research. Youth charity, Off The Record host a session on how social media is changing perceptions around mental health (which is free to anyone under 25).
  • Just want to network and party? No problem! Start the week at LinkedIn Local’s Bristol launch on Monday, Work Out and Network with Origin Workspace (tickets launch soon) at an early morning harbor run on Tuesday and catch up with the great and the good at The Bristol Media Sponsored Social Media Week Social (tickets launch soon) on the Thursday evening. 

Ticket prices are from £10 to £25 per ticket, with a number of free events. Prices have been purposefully kept low to encourage maximum participation in the schedule. In support of Social Media Week Bristol, ADLIB are launching the South West’s second official Social Media Employment Survey. Make sure you follow @AdLibRecruit on Twitter or email to be notified when the survey goes live.  Data will be gathered during Social Media Week and shared with the community in the near future.

Social Media Week Bristol is also thrilled to have shared ride to work service, Slide on board! Download the app here. Slide will be running a shuttle service between Bristol Temple Meads (adjacent to Engine Shed) and Everyman during Social Media Week Bristol.

Events will be hosted at Engine Shed, Everyman Cinema and The Lido and in an eclectic mix of venues including bakeries, businesses, theatres and creative and digital agencies across central & North Bristol.
