Royal Mail David Bowie Stamp Set
Supple Studio have created the core products and collectors pieces for Royal Mail’s new stamp issue devoted to David Bowie.
The agency were briefed to design a presentation pack and first day cover plus a host of special edition packs including a Berlin years souvenir cover, a folder of art prints and a selection of fan sheets.
‘This has been a dream job for us’ enthuses Director Jamie Ellul. ‘We’re all Bowie fans here, so when we got this brief back in Easter 2016 we were super excited but also feeling the pressure. We’ve tried to capture some of the eclectic and chameleon-like nature of Bowie and his graphic output. Mainly by changing type treatments between each element of the product set and visually reflecting his whole career.’
The presentation pack is designed to have a music magazine feel, whilst the Berlin years piece uses a black and white palette paired with a type style synonymous with Berlin street signs. The other products pay homage to classic Bowie logos from album covers and promo material. A mini-sheet carrier design featuring Bowie’s live tour imagery uses a type treatment reflecting theatre style signage. And a suite of handstamps were designed to each graphically reflect their associated album cover design.
The full set of products are available to buy from the Royal Mail website now.
