In May this year some of Bristol’s leading media people will take on a 430 km cycle ride from Bristol to Paris to raise money for local hospitals’ charity Above & Beyond for their biggest ever £6 million Golden Gift Appeal.
This spectacular four day long charity cycle challenge from Bristol to Paris, will see the Bristol Media Team set off to Portsmouth before crossing Northern France cycling through historic towns, sleepy villages and rolling countryside en-route to Paris and the finish line at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Bristol businesses and participants from the local community are joining Bristol’s city centre hospitals to make up Above & Beyond’s team of over 70 cyclists aiming to complete the 430km challenge in just four days.
Their goal is to raise £100,000 for the charity’s Golden Gift Appeal – funds that would go towards an additional individual room at the Bristol Royal Infirmary to give a patient with life-limiting Cystic Fibrosis added privacy, and dignity in care. An individual room will also offer these patients the space for vital physiotherapy equipment, and for loved ones to stay close by.
Jonnie Galvin-Wright, a Director of Bristol Media, MD of Stuff Advertising and also acting business ambassador for the Bristol to Paris Cycle Challenge said: “I was asked last year to take up this challenge by Above & Beyond who also happen to be a client of my agency. As a local businessman, I feel very passionate about supporting our hospitals which is why I’m taking part. Given my involvement with Bristol Media, I was in a position to help put a team together to take on the challenge – and it is a challenge!” Jonnie will be joined in the Bristol Media Team by Mark Mason, entrepreneur and CEO of Mubaloo, Ben Heald, CEO of Sift, Chris Thurling, Bristol Media Director and adviser on digital strategy, innovation and marketing who includes Sawday’s amongst his own clients, Simon Brown, MD and founder of ForrestBrown and Christian Tait, Creative Director of Creative Cadence.
Jonnie adds, “Above and Beyond is one of Bristol’s most important causes. All of us in the Bristol Media team are keen to make a difference.
“Personally it’s also been a journey of MAMIL discovery (Middle Aged Men in Lycra) and great to get back on my bike again which, in Bristol, brings many health benefits. I’m glad to say the team are taking their training seriously and the hills of Bristol and the wider region are proving a good training ground for us all”.
“We are of course looking for sponsorship and we hope that the Bristol Media community and others will support us by giving what they can. Every donation will make a real difference to patient care in our city. Please visit our link here to make a donation."
