Creative and media sector tax reliefs briefing - in association with HM Revenue & Customs
Legislation was included in Finance Act 2013 to provide tax incentives for expenditure incurred by companies within the creative sector on or after 1 April 2013. Smith & Williamson are hosting a joint event with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), which will include the new tax reliefs for high-end television, programme production, animation production and video games development.
The speakers include Des Ryan, Technical advisor from HMRC’s Creative Industries Tax Reliefs team. The session will be followed by a question and answer session where questions on the wider range of tax reliefs available to the creative sector can be tabled.

Dave is a tax partner and advises a diverse range of SME and corporate clients on both tax compliance and consultancy matters. He has a particular interest in the Media & Creative sector advising clients about tax reliefs available including R&D, Patent Box and Enterprise Management Incentive Schemes.
Des Ryan, Technical Advisor HMRC’s Creative Industries Tax Reliefs team
Des has responsibility for both policy development and legislative matters within HMRC for all the Creative Industries tax reliefs. He began working on these in 2008 and has helped to bring in the High End TV, Animation and Video games reliefs and is currently finalising the new Theatre tax relief. Des also works on the Venture Capital Schemes dealing with Venture Capital Trusts and the Enterprise Investment Scheme.
