For the first time in the Institute Of Directors' (IOD) history a business partnership has been recognised in Director of the Year Awards.

For the first time in the Institute Of Directors’ (IOD) history a business partnership has been recognised in Director of the Year Awards.

Griff Holland and Ed Brown, Co-Founders and directors of Bristol fresh fast food chain Friska, have been selected as finalists in the IOD South West Young Director of the Year Awards which will be held on 12th June at Bristol's Paintworks. Other finalists include Nick Sturge (Co-Founder of the Engine Shed) and Henry Williams (Managing Director of Williams Automobiles).

The regional IOD awards have been created to recognise and celebrate the role of leaders and their contribution to the South West Region. The winners will then go on to represent the South West at the National Awards later this year. Previous winners of the award include Tristan Hogg from Pieminister and Ellen Rodger from Sungift Solar.

This nomination for the University of Bath Graduates, follows on from them being named in this year’s Top 42 Business leaders under 42 in the South West last month. On being nominated Griff says “Since day one, we have always operated as a tight partnership and after being encouraged to enter the IOD awards we decided that we’d either enter as a two-some. We were told that this had never been done before but that there were no explicit rules to say we couldn’t. Great we thought, let’s shake things up a little and do something new! Now we’ve got our fingers crossed to actually win the thing!”

Since opening their first store on Victoria Street in 2009, the company has gone from strength to strength and is currently operating four stores across Bristol with a fifth due to open within the next few months. The duo then plan to start their UK roll out with their first store opening in Birmingham in Autumn 2014. Over the next few years Ed and Griff plan to grow Friska into a nationally recognised and loved brand in major cosmopolitan cities.

Ed says “Since starting Friska, we have always shared the same ambition and values - to  see the company grow into something amazing. This coupled with our complimentary skills will continue to be a real strength to the business in the coming years as the challenges we face will no doubt increase. It also helps that we still have a great laugh together.”
