Master Class Day review

Published on Monday, 18th November 2013
Our second Master Class day which took place on Friday 15th November was a resounding success. Read on to hear what delegates had to say.

Our second Master Class Day, hosted at Osborne Clarke and supported by Creative Skillset and Growth Accelerator, took place on Friday 15th November to packed rooms.  The event was sold out two weeks before hand and 90 lucky delegates had the opportunity to hear from a fantastic range of speakers including Andy Bamford (ThirtyThree), Neil Collard (E3), Andy Reid (McCann Bristol), Mark Young (Retriever New Business), Oli Christie (Neon Play), Caroline Harris (Spirit PR), Rory Ahern (Rubber Republic) and Toby Sawday (Sawday's).

The day began with an opening panel session chaired by CEO, Fraser Bradshaw on Start Up Success Stories.  We heard from Jayne Lilly, MD of The Collaborators, Spencer Buck, Founder and Creative Director at Taxi Studio, Roger Proctor of Proctor & Stevenson and Lee Carre, CD at Second Sync.  Fraser who recently started his own agency saintnicks told the audience to 'think big', 'don't be afraid to ask for help', 'pay for the right people' and 'be prepared to work like you've never worked before'.

After the morning's Master Classes, Mark Young, MD of Retriever New Business, gave a keynote called Wise Mind in New Business, telling us that people still buy people and that the right story, well told, by the right people to the right audience, with the right proof, will be successful.

"Great day on Friday. Inspiring, motivating, challenging. Met some new pals, what's not to like? Thanks Bristol Media!"

"Really enjoyable day - great insight and good tips"

"Excited surprised and impressed at truly collaborative culture on show at todays "

"Great day put on by Bristol Media #BMMasterclass interesting topics and so much to takeaway my head is full".

After lunch Creative Skillset chaired a debate with representatives from BIMA, IPA, PRCA and D&AD on the skills shortage facing not only our creative community but also nationally, followed by four more sessions including a valuable legal update from Tom Harding and Ben Holt of Osborne Clarke focusing on the Consumer Rights Directive which comes into force on 13th June 2014.

"Great day today. Very informative and nice bunch of people!"

"Great day at the Bristol Media Master Class day, insightful and inspiring".

All the sessions were recorded as audio podcasts by Echoic Audio and these will be made available to Master Class delegates later this week.  These will also be distributed to Bristol Media members in the New Year.  Once again, many thanks go to Creative Skillset and Growth Accelerator for their support; to Osborne Clarke for hosting the event again in their lovely event space and to Andre Regini, for taking the photographs.
