Generation Y : Recruitment, engagement and retention

Nick Dean gives an insight into the employment challenges facing creative businesses in the first of a series looking at employer / employee engagement.

Look around you. It’s likely Generation Y will be sat amongst your team; it’s also highly likely you may sit in the Generation Y category too. We’re talking those people born in and around the early / mid 80’s to the 90’s (in terms of current employment years), otherwise referred to as the Millennial Generation. 

Generation Y are often described as adaptable and flexible with a total comfort with technology. Constant praise and being rewarded on performance are high on the agenda, along with a real comfort of operating in virtual situations. They’re also confident, driven to success, academically bright and have high expectations from their employers. Sound familiar? 

As a business operating in the heart of the digital, technology, marketing and eCommerce sectors the team at ADLIB talk to a lot of people, from many businesses, across numerous industry sectors. From multi-national blue chip brands, through to ambitious SME’s and grass-root start-ups. Topics include employee engagement, the evaluation and evolution of organisational structures, recruiting / retaining emerging and challenging skill sets and creating effective reward / recognition schemes.
