The Junior Digital Email Developer will be responsible working as part of the development team on the build, amends, testing, and maintenance of all of our day to day email projects, ensuring everything we do is of the highest quality

They will also use knowledge of email technologies to discuss how to provide the best solutions for different scenarios with designers and account handlers and they will also research new technologies and ways to use and incorporate them in to what the agency already does and can offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create emails from studio approved design files to industry best standard using HTML and CSS, without the use of a WYSIWYG editor, using appropriate software and ‘real life’ testing to ensure correct rendering across all platforms and email clients
  • Provide design support across low-level content amends and translations
  • QA email builds and other projects for both your own work and that of other Developers within the Digital Development team using supplied QA checklists
  • Work with the Digital Design team to advise best practice to all projects and finding creative solutions to any challenges that arise
  • Ensure all projects are managed through Jira/Trello, regularly updating all projects with status comments and accurately tracking time spent on each task using Harvest
  • Demonstrate understanding of processes and timescales involved with the production and development process
  • Manage upwards to ensure the Digital Development Lead is aware of any issues / opportunities
  • Apply industry best practice against all projects and provide insight and analytical thinking and where necessary to supply concise yet comprehensive guides or documentation

Person specification


  • Experience of creating emails using HTML and CSS, including an understanding of HTML 5, responsive coding and an emphasis on table-based layouts for email creation
  • Familiar with Adobe Photoshop and Sketch design files for exporting as web standard assets,
  • Knowledge of best practices for coding emails, and aware of current industry trends, standards and competitive landscape
  • Good understanding of design and production best practice for email and mobile
  • Strong organization skills
  • A desire to achieve high quality standards with strong attention to detail – generally being pixel perfect
  • Self-starter who is solution oriented, knows how to ‘make things happen’ and takes action/decisions with consideration for both client and agency interests
  • Has a challenging and enquiring mind, with an ability to take a fresh perspective, keeping up to date with latest thinking


  • Knowledge of JavaScript/jQuery
  • Familiar with animation techniques in particular: CSS3, Photoshop and After Effects
  • Experience with email platforms and support systems such as Litmus, Adobe Campaign, Adestra Message Focus, Salesforce and Maximail
  • Good knowledge of core processes for campaign development across email and mobile technologies
