We are Specialist – The Content Marketing Agency, based just off the Triangle in Bristol. We are one of Bristol’s leading creative and digital agencies. We are looking for a Production Manager to join our team on a part-time basis, to cover a period of Maternity Leave. The ideal working pattern would be 9.30 - 2.30, 5 days a week, so this could fit nicely around the school run, or we can be flexible to accommodate other working patterns.

As our Production Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of our diverse publishing programme, which includes magazines produced for a number of different clients, as well as all printed materials at Specialist. Your role will include checking and creating schedules, confirming product specifications and placing orders, overseeing a range of suppliers and monitoring the quality of the product. The focus across all that you do will be on quality, schedule, budget and ensuring both print and client deadlines are met. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Production scheduling
  • Arranging bookings for print, paper and mailing services
  • Day to day liaison with external suppliers
  • Day to day liaison with clients regarding the production of their titles
  • Working closely with internal teams in editorial and design, to ensure that they are aware of schedules and processes
  • Budget control – requesting quotes/estimates, generating purchase orders and managing invoices
  • Process improvement – identify any issues in the production processes and recommend solutions 
  • Cost analysis – comparing quotes and creating detailed worksheets to identify the most cost-effective solutions 
  • Updating Synergist (our CRM system) with costs and quotes
  • Calculating postage – uploading costs / quotes




Person specification

To succeed in this role, you will need to have demonstrable experience in production, including producing magazines in Europe and the UK, and a good knowledge of paper and ethical manufacturing. You’ll be a skilled negotiator, to ensure we are buying at the best value per project. You will also be an experienced communicator, and confident managing stakeholder relationships internally, with clients and suppliers. As you will be managing multiple projects at any time, you’ll also need to be organised, and able to work to tight deadlines whilst keeping a keen eye for detail. Experience of working with Keynote / PowerPoint, Excel and preferably InDesign are also necessary.
