REPORTS TO:   Venue Hire Operations Manager

SALARY: Probation level of £8.60 per hour, rising to £9.05 per hour following evidence of progression through skills milestones

CONTRACT: 0-hour role

HOURS: This role requires flexible hours to include early mornings, late evenings and weekends on an ad-hoc basis.

With a wide range of venues and spaces including the Rosalind Franklin Room on the top floor with terraces overlooking the city, a Planetarium, two floors of exhibition spaces and Millennium Square, we can host a huge variety of events including conferences, drinks receptions, parties, weddings, festivals, educational talks, private shows and awards ceremonies. 

As key members of the Venue Hire Department Event Support Staff (ESS) will work as a team under the guidance of an Events Manager in assisting with the set-up, delivery and breakdown of We The Curious events.

What we can do together….

As part of the Event Support team you will ensure that every visitor has the best experience possible. This includes the welcome you give them as they arrive and the support you offer them during their event.

As a busy venue hire location running a variety of daytime and evening events our Event Support staff need to work closely as a team, often late at night, ensuring visitors get the best experience no matter what time of day and that spaces are ready for the next event.

You will embody our values in your ways of working, being inquisitive, playful, open-minded and collaborative as you help to create a relevant, representative and alive cultural space for our city.

You will ensure that event spaces are set-up with an eye for detail with a hands-on approach to any physical tasks.

You understand the challenges of running events and are able to solve problems effectively under pressure.

You will use your passion for excellent customer service at all times to deliver high quality events and support visitor needs.

You will ensure that our event spaces are presented to meet our visitors' high standards, taking responsibility for cleaning tasks as needed and reporting maintenance issues to the Event Manager.

You will work with a wide range of audiences, identifying their different needs and taking into account wider organisational activities.

You will support cross organisational events to help realise the aims and objectives of We The Curious.

You will make certain that Health and Safety, Risk Management and Safeguarding regulations are adhered to and carried out in line with We The Curious protocols. 


Person specification

Who are you?

You have previous experience in a customer service role and are passionate about customer service.
You will ideally have experience of working in a conference or events environment with previous experience of manual handling.
You are confident working with a variety of audiences.
You have experience of working to deadlines with the ability to multitask.
You are highly motivated and confident working as part of a team.
You have excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
