Bill Viola documentary at RWA, 27th January
Where: Royal West of England Academy, Queen's Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1px
When: 27 January 2011 1:00am to 1:00am
As part of Inside-Out 's exhibition programme the RWA present an exciting opportunity to view this definitive portrait of the world's leading video artist Bill Viola. Directed by award winning director Mark Kidel, Calliope Productions, the film features the artist at work and rarely-seen footage from his own archive and in-depth interviews with the artist himself.
Bill Viola has been exploring video art since its beginnings in the 1970's and is increasingly recognised as one of the most important visual artists working today.
In the film Viola talks passionately about his life and the events and artistic influences that have driven his work: from his childhood memory of near-drowning, to the artistic exploration and political activism of his youth, and on to the death of his mother. The film explores the connection between Viola's work and the mystical traditions of East and West.
