About the event speakers:

Ian Anderson – The Designers Republic (tDR)

tDR was a graphic design studio, founded on 14 July 1986 by Ian Anderson, and based in Sheffield, England. It was known for its anti-establishment aesthetics, while simultaneously embracing brash consumerism and the uniform style of corporate brands, such as Orange and Coca-Cola. The studio closed in January 2009, though Anderson has stated that “The Designers Republic will go forward” This is the first time Ian has spoken about the company since it???s closure.

Maria Mochnacz

A Bristol based photographer/filmmaker who has worked with internationally recognised musicians such as PJ Harvey, M People, Robert Miles & Sven Veth to produce some truly memorable music videos.

Andy Council

A Bristol based illustrator who???s drawing skills and love of detail lead him

to create bizarrely intricate collections of creatures from rabbits made of

tanks to dinosaurs mobilised by Olots of stuff???. He was trained in the

traditional techniques of animation and drawing, becoming influenced by

Miyazaki and Geoff Darrow amongst others. He uses a combination of graphics, line drawing, ink and paint pen to create his beasts.

In the past Andy has been commissioned by various national and international companies, most notably Interni Magazine, The Big Issue, The Guardian, The Recycling Consortium and American Airlines.

Gabriel Solomons

Gabriel works as both a practising graphic designer and senior lecturer on the Graphic Design course at the UWE, Bristol. He has over 10 years experience in the industry. He will be talking about his newest publication The Big Picture.
