Where: Knowle West Media Centre, Leinster Avenue, Knowle West, Bristol, BS4 1NL

When: 11 May 2015 10:00am to 14 May 2015 5:00pm

40 years ago Knowle West had its own TV channel – now Knowle West Media Centre and the University of Bristol are bringing it back.

Discover 23 hours of footage, from the Fighting Cocks pub and Merrywood Girls’ School to women’s liberation and South Bristol bands.

Join KWMC from 11th – 14th May to bring it to life:

  • Drop in Monday to Thursday, see the footage and identify people and places.
  • Join us for a special discussion event: ‘The Past, Present & Future of Community Media’. Peter Lewis (station manager of The Bristol Channel in the 1970s), Angela Piccini (University of Bristol), Shawn Sobers (University of the West of England) and Julian Warren (Bristol Records Office) will facilitate an evening of film and discussion about community media and the experience of making Knowle West TV. Tuesday 12th May, 6pm.
  • Come along to an editing masterclass with Katie Mack, whose editing work includes Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (Tuesday 12th May, 4.30pm)
  • See David Hopkinson present new video works constructed from the KWTV footage and join in with a participatory event where members of the public can review and manipulate the archive live on the big screen (Thursday 14th May).
