Our monthly Bristol Explorers event gives you the opportunity to meet fellow adventurers in a cosy cocktail bar, full of people who have done interesting stuff or are looking to do something exciting. Catch up on all the expedition and adventure news. Meet like-minded people. Get inspired. Everyone welcome!
This month we are joined by Kate Phelp and her journey through the South Pole. Having deployed twice to Iraq, Kate was injured whilst serving on operations in Afghanistan in November 2008, when the armoured vehicle she was commanding was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). As a result of her injuries, Kate had her left leg amputated below the knee, but after 16 months of rehab she was determined to return to work and pursue her professional ambition. Following further revision surgery, Kate was inspired by Walking With The Wounded to give a new focus to her rehab and take on the challenge of the South Pole.
As part of the Walking With The Wounded South Pole Challenge three teams of wounded servicemen and women embarked upon one of the most high profile expeditions of modern times, racing across 3° to the Geographic South Pole. Wounded from the UK, the US and the Commonwealth (Australia and Canada) embarked on this grueling challenge supported 'in person' by Prince Harry
Entry Cost: £5
