Where: The Redgrave Theatre, 2 Percival Road, Clifton, Bristol,, BS8 3LE

When: 28 September 2014 7:00pm to 9:30pm

CineMe presents an evening with the prolific British model maker and designer Martin Bower.

Martin has worked in film, television, advertising and publishing since 1969. During his career Martin has constructed over 1000 models, which have appeared in a number of popular children's television programs and feature films.

Martin's major breakthrough was working alongside the Oscar winning special effects artist Brian Johnson (Thunderbirds, Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey), on the Gerry Anderson science fiction television series Space:1999 over a 3 year period. He also went onto make models for a number of popular television programs (Blakes 7, Doctor Who, The Tomorrow People, Horizon and Tripods), whilst also working as the supervising model maker on Ridley Scott's Alien, the cult 1980 British sci-fi movie Flash Gordon and 1981's Outland, starring Sean Connery.

Other work has included numerous television commercials and photographic work for books, magazines, comics and video covers. His most notable work in the publishing field was for the 1991 to 1995 Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet comics, poster magazines and other publicity, which rode on the back on the huge success the BBC had when these programs were repeated.

Martin will join CineMe for an evening discussion about his career. Film and television excerpts will be used to illustrate Martin's work and he will also be answering audience questions and signing autographs. He will also be talking about how models and film and TV miniatures are made, with some of his most famous pieces being on display for the event.
