Pervasive Media Studio Lunchtime Talk: Slingshot - the difficult second album

Where: Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed, 1 Canon's Road, Bristol, BS1 5TX

When: 07 September 2012 12:00pm to 1:00pm

In 2.8 Hours Later Slingshot has developed a highly popular game, the first project the company has successfully scaled and commercialised. The revenue has enabled the company to create a business plan, build a core team and generate a level of planning that it has never been able to do before. Most importantly, it has managed to go from an arts organisation reliant on public funding to one that has a sustainable business model. With success, however, come new challenges. How can the company create a game equally as popular as 2.8 Hours Later? Is it just the zombie genre, or are pervasive games the next big popular cultural form? 2.8 generates revenue but costs are very high; there isn't much room to play with and risks are considerable. Slingshot will be talking through the development of their next large scale game, a collaboration with the Orchid research group, and how the company is attempting to meet the challenges of the difficult second album. This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week. Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio?
