Pervasive Media Studio Lunchtime Talk: Introduction to Plonk â?? a framework for audio software development
Where: Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed, 1 Canon's Road, Bristol, BS1 5TX
When: 17 February 2012 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Plonk is a new C++ framework for audio software development by Martin Robinson in the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Plonk was designed to support teaching and research activities at the university but is being made available to the wider community using a permissive open source license. This talk will introduce the current state of the project and outline its future plans. Plonk???s aims are to be:???
??? easy to use in the first instance;???
??? usable for prototyping; and ???
??? scalable for audio application development (including mobile apps, audio for games and so on).
Plonk comprises building blocks for audio processing (e.g., oscillators, filters) and ways to interconnect these processes into more complex graphs. Plonk is multi-platform, currently running on Mac OS X, iOS and Windows and the intention is to support other platforms in the future.
This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.
