Interactive Content Exchange, Toronto

UKTrade and Investment are once again supporting activities at Interactive Content Exchange (ICE), 26-28 March 2008 in Toronto, Canada. This high-level conference and market is dedicated to the business of content on interactive platforms.

Last year, a UK delegation took part in panel sessions, 1-2-1 meetings, pitch competitions, industry sessions, a UK focused networking reception, and an exclusive breakfast with representatives from provincial interactive media associations from across Canada.

UKTI in Toronto is working closely with Interactive Ontario www.interactiveontario.com, event organisers, and are inviting members of the UK interactive media industry to participate in ICE 2008. the downloadable PDF outlines a call for speakers and delegates. South West Screen launches Company Development Programme

South West Screen have launched a new Company Development Programme aimed at film producers and film and television companies in the South West region. The Programme consists of three 2-day courses aimed at developing and expanding key business and strategic skills for companies in the region. It will run from February 2008 to October 2008 (with specific dates to be confirmed after consultation with accepted participants). Wildscreen Festival returns to Bristol in 2008

The Wildscreen Festival is back in Bristol this year and is searching for the world’s best wildlife and environmental films. Entries for the Festival’s prestigious Panda Awards, dubbed the green OSCARS, will be welcomed from Friday January 25th – Friday March 28th. The tape deadline is Friday 11th April and the festival runs this year from 19th October – 24th October. For more information visit www.wildscreenfestival.org

Call for Collaborative Research

January 30th 2008 sees the announcement of the £10m call for collaborative research projects, targeted specifically at the creative industries. Details of the competition will be launched at an event open to all held at the Law Society in London.

The main objective of the competition is to stimulate technology based or inspired innovation. The call is looking for projects that will lead to the development of new products, processes, capabilities and services or improve the competitive advantages of existing ones. It is open to collaborative projects between UK based companies; and companies and universities/ other research organisations. The overall theme will centre on the exploitation of digital technologies and has been designed to appeal broadly across the creative industry sub sectors, and includes specific mechanisms to encourage participation of small companies.

The Technology Strategy Board is also hosting two all day workshops to help stimulate and develop project ideas and build project teams. These are free to creative industry companies and organisations with places allocated on a first come first served basis.

Tiger Kill - latest production from Icon Films

Icon Films latest production for BBC and Animal Planet, Tiger Kill, is transmitted on BBC2 at 8pm on 25th January 2008. The film is narrated by Simon King and produced by Harry Marshall with photography by Alphonse Roy, Simon King and Ted Giffords and music by David Mitcham.

Creative minds sought for European Animation Masterclass 2008

This year the International Academy of Media and Arts in Halle (Saale), Germany, is once again offering the European advanced training initiative for the next generation of international animators. The intensive seven month EAM 2008 course will take students from across the whole of Europe and is aimed at committed, well motivated, up-and-coming animators as well as young people just starting their careers who have an aptitude and a passion for animation and want to enhance their experience in this field.

Those who take part in the course will have the opportunity to bring their own ideas to the screen, collaborate in an international team and gain experience in the production of animated films. Masterclass students receive intensive tuition and mentoring from a team of internationally experienced and recognised tutors and other experts.

Applicants need to have a good working knowledge of 2D and 3D programs and some experience with animation software and compositing as well as a good command of English. If you are interested, please submit your full application (convincing samples of your work [print, DVD, CD], a covering letter, CV and an idea for a short animated film [2D or 3D, approx. 1 minute long]) by post to the International Academy of Media and Arts to arrive not later than 31st January 2008.
