Show and Tell - Heroes : How the audience helped Tim Kring get it right

With series 2 now well under way and attracting several million viewers, our next Show and Tell event at the Picture House is well timed. “Heroes” was one of the international successes of 2007 and with a local angle. Chris Humpherson, Adrian Edwards and Katherine Bristow from Attentional reveal the role of audience research in shaping the complexity of the storylines and the character development. With “Audience Need” the starting point for most projects, the team provide focussed research for ideas, rebranding and launches. They use a system of Targeted Indexing to provide a rigorous analysis of TV overnight figures and an understanding how new technologies in PVR and VOD are effecting the viewing of programmes.

The Show and Tell event takes place at The Picture House on Whiteladies Road and starts promptly at 6.30pm-8pm and is free to Bristol Media members.

Digital Visitor promotes "The Science of Survival" online

The Science of....Bristol based online video marketing company Digital Visitor has been commissioned by ‘The Science of…’ to cover the launch of a new interactive exhibition, ‘The Science of Survival’, which recently opened at the Science Museum, London.

Digital Visitor has been asked to produce a series of three videos, each with a specific aim. The objective was not only to help promote the exhibition to the general public while on show at the Science Museum, but also to assist ‘The Science of …’ team when promoting the new exhibition to potential venues across the world.

The three videos being produced by Digital Visitor are:

· a 60-second promotional video showing families and kids having fun in the exhibition – it will be used by the Science Museum to attract visitors;

· a 90-second video that will be used by ‘The Science of…’ to promote the exhibition to other host venues all over the world;

· a four-minute ‘walk through’ with a member of ‘The Science of…’ team explaining what the exhibition is about and explaining individual exhibits.

Digital Visitor co-director Anthony Rawlins said: “We are delighted that an institution as prestigious as ‘The Science of…’ has asked us to undertake a project of this kind.

“It’s very exciting and underlines how cost-effective video and online distribution is proving increasingly attractive to operators in the leisure and tourism market, including the bigger attractions and destinations such as The Science Museum and the National Trust, another of our recently acquired clients.”

‘The Science of…’ is a partnership between the world-renowned Science Museum and intellectual property management experts Fleming Media. ‘The Science of…’ brand was created to communicate and transfer a passion and knowledge of science through engaging and entertaining exhibitions and ‘The Science of Survival’ is the third project to be launched.

Digital Visitor, founded by Anthony and his co-director Simon Jones, also counts the ss Great Britain in Bristol, the Royal Highland Centre, the Bath & West Showground and the Tourism Skills Network among its clients.

Social Issues, Documentaries and Debates at the Watershed

Manufactured LandscapesAs part of Bristol’s Festival of Ideas 2008, Watershed is delighted to present Social Issues – Documentaries and Debates, a series of talks and events which touch on the big issues affecting public life.

At a time when there is renewed opposition to the destruction of our planet, globalisation and war, the season will trace the thread of creative resistance established over the last forty years, addressing the ways in which today’s activists are pushing for social and cultural change. In addition to an uncompromising programme of screenings, we welcome expert speakers to encourage debate and discuss our collective response to these emerging global crises.

Mark Cosgrove, Watershed’s Head of Cultural Programme, says of the season:

“Increasingly, cinema – through documentaries – is showing us the radical effects of ‘man’ on the planet – from corporate corruption to globalisation and climate change, and this season, as part of Festival of Ideas, demonstrates the scale and urgency of the issues.”

For more information on the programme go to www.watershed.co.uk or to www.ideasfestival.co.uk. To book for any of the screenings call the Box office on 0117 927 6444
