Paul Gilbert - Covering Letter

A brief history

During nine years heading up the video arm of UBS's New Media Team I completed and managed a wide gamut of projects from Flash screensavers to full microsites, PPT and Keynote presentations as well as delivering countless corporate video productions from “soup-to-nuts”.

My role also involved close client liaison from initial enquiry to final delivery including producing detailed estimates, inputting new jobs and logging details of all time into the project management system and allocating / hiring resources.

In 2008 I was outsourced into the same role via Williams Lea who took the opportunity to spread the video offering to several of their other blue-chip client companies.

I recently went freelance and moved to Cheltenham for family reasons but am still working in London on a regular basis and am effectively available there as required.

A history of briefs

Video briefs have ranged from single camera "talking-head" training material through to highly complex senior management pitch productions, often necessitating the co-ordination of shoots and crews globally. I also produced video, infographics and presentation content for screening at internal and external conferences as well as providing multi-camera coverage and edits of those events.

Greenscreen featured heavily in many productions, which I often also edited and produced and composited 2D and 3D motion graphics.

I have worked extensively with both Keynote and Powerpoint, including enhancing supplied PPT files via Keynote and resupplying them either as Keynote files or, for PC based clients, outputting and transcoding them to relevant video formats.

Working with and outputting to DVD, web and other platforms means that in-depth familiarity with all video formats, codecs and encoding software is a necessity. I have worked with everything from 3gp files for mobile walking tours to pitch videos for delivery on iPad and I believe I can reliably deliver content in virtually any required format for any platform.

I also had input into UBS’ internal video branding guidelines as well as acting as a consultant on the development of a new group-wide video-on-demand solution.

I can therefore offer a wealth of management and hands-on experience in video production, direction, filming and editing, 2D and 3D design and motion graphics, plus interactive design for desktop, web and DVD as well as photography, sound recording / design and music composition.

Summary

I'm happy to work ad-hoc in freelance production or design roles although ideally I'm looking for projects, or a position, that makes full use of my skill set. I am fascinated by, and have a professional’s grasp of, multimedia and video, and the breadth and depth of my experience and skill set, allied to my innate enthusiasm and creativity, mean that I'm passionate about developing distinctive and engaging video and new media solutions and can deliver them solo or as part of a team within a budget sensitive, deadline-driven environment.

Portfolio

LubbDupp Portfolio Site

I built this site to showcase the quality and breadth of my work. Examples include video, 2D & 3D motion graphics and web design for assorted clients. NB Although the site features quite a lot of Flash content, if browsing on an iOS device the Video / Motion Graphics page will automatically forward you to a compatible version of the page.

UBS FX Investor Microsite

This was a treat to work on as I had the chance to not only design and create the 3D animation for the intro but also to weave that into the microsite interface. So, when the animation finishes you can roll over the key elements in the end frame to trigger animations and then click to zoom into the scene!
