The Bristol Design Festival is an annual celebration of the wealth of creativity, design and innovation talent in Bristol and the South West.
In July 2007 we established ourselves with our first event exhibiting just 25 local designers and attracting 1,200 people to the show. Building on this initial success we delivered our second highly successful show in June 2008. Exhibiting work from 250 local designers, attracting over 3,000 visitors the festival included several different events and independent shows across the city.
In 2009 as the festival enters its 3rd year we have once again embarked on a promise to make the festival even bigger and better than before. With many more companies and organisations getting involved the festival is soon becoming a major annual event in the South West’s creative calendar.
Our vision is to establish the Bristol Design Festival as a major annual event for the region. We aim to create a city wide, week long celebration of local, national and international design talent in the creative hub of the South West and establish Bristol’s growing reputation as the design capital of the UK.
It is our aim, that the Bristol Design Festival will eventually rival the likes of Glasgow, London and Milan with over 2,000 exhibitors in 100 venues, attracting over 30,000 national and international visitors a year.
Through an annual programme of exciting and informative exhibitions, workshops, competitions, talks and seminars the Bristol Design Festival aims to achieve the following objectives:
•To promote Bristol and the South West as a centre of design excellence and give it the reputation it deserves as a hub of creativity and innovation.
•To expose new and established designers to potential customers and employers.
•To create a sense of civic pride in Bristol’s design achievements and encourage a more coherent, integrated and accessible local design community.
•To educate local communities, businesses and members of the public about the importance of good design and its potential economic and social benefits.
•To collaborate with existing creative events and encourage new, independent events across the city to come under the BDF umbrella.
