Radio On (Chris Petit/Wim Wenders, 1980)
This Spring, Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) are screening three films by German director and producer Wim Wenders. The second is Radio On, Monday 14 June.
A cult Brit movie originally commissioned by the British Film Institute, Radio On is directed by Chris Petit with Wim Wenders as Associate Producer. Main character Robert D, a DJ, makes an existential journey west from London, in an unlikely English form of the road movie. As others have commented, the slightly dour and drab quality of the landscape reflects a period in British history just prior to the huge political changes that occurred under Margaret Thatcher. A great soundtrack defines the film, including Len Lovich and Wreckless Eric.
