17 Dec - 21 Dec
illuminate
The Longest Night is a five-day festive event on Bristol’s North St (from the old Gala Bingo down to the Cannon St mini roundabout). Taking our cue from London’s Regent St, illuminate will transform the lower end of North St into a festive spectacle with a series of shop windows created by nationally renowned Bristol based artists, including Luke Jerram, Joe Magee, Kathy Hinde, Nathan Hughes, Green Ginger Puppet Company and Ulf Pederson.
Longest Night will include a Gallery/Exhibition space at 26 North St showing photographic work and video conversations between young people and senior citizens from Windmill Hill City Farm. In addition Once, the Creators of poetic happenings and magical events are collaborating with young people from Windmill Hill City Farm Adventure Playground to create a unique piece of shadow graffiti for illuminate. In a response to poetry from different cultures the young people will help create low-tech ‘temporary graffiti’ projections on our opening night.
The Longest Night will open on 17th December at 7pm with live music from Miss Cecily, a DJ and Bristol Beer Factory beer tent and Marks Bread food stall on the courtyard of the old Gala Bingo building.
Longest Night will run from 17-21 December 2010 with the artist windows being illuminated until 6pm daily.
