SUMMARY:Mivart Artists Open Studios & Fabricate Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Artists at Mivart Street Studios in Easton invite you to a weekend celebrating the process of creativity with more than thirty artists, makers, performers and designers. Come along to see original paintings, limited edition prints, public art, ceramics, glass, enamels, sculpture and jewellery. There will also be a cafe, performances, workshops and a special selected exhibition in the open spaces:
Fabrication’ Exhibition: In conjunction with Mivart Street Open Studios
FABRICATED: (adj) formed or conceived by the imagination, to invent or concoct, construct or manufacture, fictitious or fancied.
Mivart Artists Open Spaces Team together with a selection panel made up of [‘artists supporting artists’]: Yvonne Buchheim, Chuck Elliot, Penny Jones and ALIAS mentor, Louise Short, requested proposals from artists in the building to locate current work or to create new works for an open space within the building. They asked that the work submitted was site-sensitive or site-responsive to its intended location and relevant to the theme of ‘Fabrication’ (open to broad, personal interpretation).
The aim of this exhibition is to encourage movement through the building and inspire a sense of discovery in visitors. Twelve artists were chosen for a wonderful site-responsive exhibition to be found throughout the building. Works in broad spectrum of media with very differing interpretations of the Fabrication theme include two new award-winning commissions:
- The MivArtist 2009 winner Mel Shearsmith will be premiering a new film-installation in the aikido space, funded by Mivart Studios.
- ’Make’ a short film by Sally Reay, soundtrack by Keef Chemistry with funding by The Mivart Award
The open studios and accompanying exhibition will be open on 3 & 4 October 2009, from 11 am – 5 pm, with advanced viewing on Friday 2 October, from 7 pm – 10 pm and entry is free. Come along to Mivart Street Studios, Mivart Street, Easton, BS5 6JL to find out what goes on in this enormous old Victorian factory in the heart of Easton.
