Showbiz glitz and glamour at last week's RTS Awards
The red carpet was rolled out in true showbiz style on Thursday night at a star studded Royal Television Awards Ceremony at Bristol's Cinema de Lux. Over two hundred people from the Media sector celebrated the very best of television and digital media in the West. A record number of submissions were received this year with several new categories including Media Effectiveness, Best Digital Innovation and Best on Screen Game - quite a daunting challenge for the panel of Judges.
Miranda Krestovnikoff, more often seen in her wellies in the rain as a natural history reporter on The One Show, was the evening's glamourous presenter and she was joined on stage by Head of the NHU in Bristol Andrew Jackson, Laya Lewis from Skins, John Yorke, Controller of Drama at the BBC, Mark Hill, Head of RDF Television West and actress Julia Sawalha who also presented awards.
It was quite a night for Bristol Media members Aardman who won five awards: Best Entertainment for Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention, Media Effectiveness for Nokia Dot, Best Digital Innovation for The Tate Movie Project, Best On-Screen Game for Home Sheep Home and Best Sound Will Norrie for Wallace and Grommit's World of Invention.
Mark Fielder's Quickfire Media and Cholmondeley Films won Best Specialist Factual for their C5 documentary 'Revealed:The Virgin Queen's Fatal Affair. BDH won Best Titles and Branding for The Antiques Roadshow and Being Human won Best Television Drama. Philippa Lowthorpe won Best Director/Producer for Five Daughters and also collected awards on behalf of David Thrasher for Best Editing, Sean Harris for Best Actor and Jamie Winstone for Best Actress.
The final award of the evening was the Special Award in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the West of England region and Julia Sawalha presented the award to the cast and crew of Casualty, now in it's 25th year and the longest running TV medical drama in the world.
The evening was a true celebration and fantastic showcase of the incredible array of internationally successful talent that we have here in Bristol. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees - we look forward to seeing you again next year!
