Small Businesses in Bristol Pay What They Want for Marketing

Radiohead and pay what you want restaurants are the unlikely inspiration for a one-day ‘pay us what you think it’s worth’ marketing workshop heading Bristol’s way.
Taking place on the 22 February, 9.30-4.00pm at Engineer’s House, in Clifton, the workshop will put marketing and time management expertise at the disposal of small businesses – but leave the price tag completely at their discretion.
Led by small business marketing professional, Bryony Thomas, with productivity expert, Lee Cottier, the bold approach will see small business owners walking away with a one-year marketing plan for just the price of a £5 entry pass. It’s only afterwards that they pay anything – and how much they do is entirely their choice.
Bryony Thomas, from Bristol-based Clear Thought Consulting, commented: "Whilst some might see us as slightly eccentric for disregarding our fees, we wanted to take money out of the equation to show people how to invest time, rather than money, into marketing their small business.
"Many small businesses dip in and out of marketing without ever seeing real sales results. This workshop gives businesses the marketing tools and time to win new business. And, our ‘pay us what you think it’s worth’ approach, gives us first hand feedback on our training, and people the choice to show us how much they value the workshop and think it’s worth.
Delivered in two parts, participants will leave the workshop with a watertight marketing plan to help them win more customers and grow their business as well as techniques to help them fit their marketing goals into a busy work schedule.
Clear Thought Consulting, on the other hand, runs the risk of losing more than £2,500 in event costs. The company will reveal the results of the pricing experiment at the end of February.
