Businesses in Bristol are being urged to enter the 2011 Media & Innovation Awards, the South West’s most prestigious awards for people working in the creative industries.
The Media & Innovation Awards 2011 are run in association with Innovation Networks South West (iNets South West).
The Media & Innovation Awards will celebrate and honour the very best creative and innovative work produced by media and design companies during 2010. This year the awards will be held in Plymouth, on the 9th June.
Businesses across the South West are being urged to enter the competition. It is open to all members of West of England Design Forum, South West Music Forum, South West Screen, Creative Bath and Bristol Media. You can enter online or download an entry pack from www.mediainnovationawards.com. Media and design companies and their clients can enter up to five categories and nominate for the new talent and outstanding contribution awards.
The Media & Innovation Awards will also run alongside a two-day conference and a showcase event to be held at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. The conference is expected to attract major international speakers, and will be a valuable tool for anyone looking to grow their creative business. Full details of the conference programme will be released later in the New Year.
Karen Stockdale, from the Media & Innovation Awards said: “We are delighted to be hosting a major international event in the South West, that will enable us to put the spotlight on the world-class creative companies based in the region.”
Simon Games, based in Bristol, won the Mobile Communications award in 2010, for their project Mobile Social Games Engine. The winning project involved game ‘Shouts’ where a player would input a message through their chosen channel, such as text message, and another player would receive the ‘Shout’ via their chosen channel, such as Twitter. The technology that Simon Games developed is mobile platform agnostic, and can be used on any device, meaning it has huge potential.
This system has already been used for a number of different games, with many players interacting through their chosen medium. The technology re-routes tweets and turns them into emails, changes text messages into tweets and turns emails into text messages.
Simon Evans describes why he entered this new technology into the Media & Innovation Awards: “A previous winner advised us to, as they said it had affected their business positively. Also, the awards carry some weight in the Bristol creative community. The benefit has been that we have an enhanced reputation and the award looks good on our website.”
Simon continues: “The awards are very good for the South West and are well produced. If you are entering then make sure that you have a good video.”
