Are you looking to break into the media? From 1100 – 1700 on Sunday June 27th we’re taking over The Picture House at 44 Whiteladies Road (BS8 2NH) for the day so you can talk to the professionals about what it’s really like to work in the media.
What is the real value of the experience you have? What might your first job involve?
How can you make the most of your CV? How will you out-compete hundreds of other people? MEDIA SPLASH is here to help.
This event is free to Bristol Media members and to register please email lynda@bristolmedia.co.uk. Non members are very welcome but do have to make a charge of £10. Non members can register and pay for your place using the PayPal link below.
Who will you meet?
Paul Appleby is a series producer and media consultant, with a lifetime’s experience that includes running the training for BBC Bristol, shooting, directing & editing, setting up work experience schemes and interviewing applicants from runner to producer.
Tom Stephens is a producer at Ammonite Films
Mark Sharman is a freelance cameraman, working in documentary & natural history on a wide range of digital formats. Plus there will be some special guests dropping in throughout the day.
This will be a highly practical day, aimed at providing you with the insights to make the most of your experience.
It will include what producers want from research; what Final Cut Pro does; what cameras the top professionals use; and what you may be handed to work with.
What the job of runner, researcher, and team assistant will entail.
What a director, series producer, assistant producer and producer really do, and what they’ll need from you
How to work with top level craft people – camera crews, editors, presenters.
How should you be watching TV? What is metadata? What is logging? What do you need from a recce? How do you set up your own company? What’s fixed-rate VAT?
And of course we are all on hand to answer any questions you might have.
It will be a group experience – you’ll be with people who are at the same stage as you, so get involved and pick up that crucial advantage…
