Omni Productions launch Interactive Safe Sex Campaign for the NHS on You Tube

Depending on the choice made, viewers then see a variety of different scenarios designed to reflect the real life choices made when it comes to relationships and sex faced by young people. The ‘right’ safe sex choice leads to a few saucy scenes, the wrong choice can lead you straight to the clinic for an uncomfortable appointment.
Hosted through a dedicated YouTube channel and seeded on popular social networking sites, the film www.youtube.com/condomnocondom has already experienced high viewing figures with over 3,000 views after the first 24 hours and over 29,000 upload views after one week.
The film is the third production Omni has managed for the NHS. Last Christmas Omni released two viral films to raise awareness of the ‘hidden’ sexually transmitted disease Chlamydia. These films were well received and were viewed by almost half a million viewers worldwide.
Commenting on the project, Richard Penfold, director of Omni Productions said: “Our brief was to produce an engaging piece of film that would appeal to the target audience, prompt them to think about how it relates to their lives and to get the message across about the importance of using condoms.”
“Young people are bombarded with messages about what they should and shouldn’t do in their everyday lives; we wanted to actively engage young people by producing a thought provoking campaign designed to get them to make their own choices. By shooting a number of different scenarios and then prompting viewers to decide what they would do at crucial decision making points in the film we have achieved a great response already.”
Lawrie Jones of NHS Bristol which commissioned the film said: “We’re always searching for new and innovative ways of engaging with a young audience – for whom traditional media can miss. The brief for this film was to encourage young people to take responsibility for their sexual health by outlining – in some detail – the various choices and consequences you face when making decisions about sex.
“This film, created and managed by NHS Choices, is the third in a series of boundary pushing sexual health films we have commissioned from Omni. We are encouraged so far by their viewing figures and hope this translates into young people making the best choices about sex.”
