On July 22nd Ontrac was responsible for organising the prestigious Young People and Crime: the next steps Conference 2009 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, jointly hosted by the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
The 300 delegates were able to join a Plenary Q&A session with Alan Johnson, Home Secretary, Jack Straw, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. There was also an address by Sara Payne, the Government’s Victims’ Champion.
Danny Lafayette MBE, from the Home Office’s Violent Crime Unit said: “Ontrac provided an excellent service both in the event and actual delivery. Their team was always accessible, helpful and professional in meeting our requirements, and prepared to adapt to any last minute changes which events of this nature present.
“Feedback for the event has been well received and this is a testament to their support”
Young People and Crime: the next steps conference reviewed the achievements made during the first year of the Tackling Knives Action Plan (TKAP) and Youth Crime Action Plan (YCAP) programmes – also organised by Ontrac.
The aim of the Conference was primarily to look at the next steps needed to sustain achievements and broaden the TKAP focus on knives into serious youth violence as a whole. There was also a launch of the TKAP phase 1 good practice guide for stakeholders, and the YCAP one year on report which set out in detail what action has been put in place across the YCAP strands and how this is being taken forward.
Project Director Claire Shand, who managed the Ontrac team through every stage of the event from delegate bookings and registration to exhibition stands, said: “It’s a great privilege to be so closely involved in the Government’s commitment to reducing youth crime, anti social behaviour, and enhancing community confidence.”
The event, hosted jointly by the Home Office, the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Ministry of Justice, was designed expressly for young people and for those who are working with young people to attend.
