On Wednesday and Thursday this week, Bristol’s Media industries get the stimulus, strategy and tools to make their production more ecologically efficient. South West Screen is the first screen agency in England to adopt the new Green Filmmaking Guidelines, as devised by local wildlife documentary maker Andrew Buchanan and Prof. Larry Engel of the American University in Washington DC and endorsed by WWF-UK.

Bristol Media have 20 tickets to give away at each of two special events. These will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Launch

Wednesday 29th April: 14.00 – 17.30 at Watershed Cinema 3

Producer of The Boat that Rocked, Hilary Bevan-Jones will answer questions on her career, the film and good environmental practice during the shoot in Portland, followed by a free screening of the film.

The Landing

Thursday 30th April: 17.30 – 19.00 at The Hub, Bush House, Arnolfini building

Bristol is the UK’s leading sustainable city, and this will be a stimulating but focused session to highlight the principles of sustainable production – across all platforms – and flesh out the Code of Conduct with the people who have made the change.

It’s not rocket science – it’s about money and values, and the principles are easy. With videos from Icon films and the BBC, a focus on why Bristol is THE place to do this, and advice you can take away and pin to your wall.

By staging the event in The Hub, we’ll draw together the production culture with the green practitioners that know how to make sustainability work, and provide the future advice and contacts to maintain.

You will need to RSVP by Friday 24th April to: fiona.francombe@swscreen.co.uk. Please say which of the two events you would like to attend.

We’re going to do our bit to carbon-neutralise the events. We ask you to do your bit and use the ferry, public transport, walk, cycle or car-share when coming to the events. Why wouldn’t you?
