Bristol’s World Cup Bid 2018 Goes Viral

The Bristol 2018 bid team have commissioned an online football game, with a particularly Bristolian flavour, to encourage people to back Bristol’s bid to be a host city for the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
‘Score for Bristol’ is a penalty shoot-out game that allows you to choose one of 5 Bristolian goalies – Cary Grant, Brunel, Banksy, Blackbeard or real-live Bristol backer Justin Lee Collins. After each shot a voice tells you how you did in fluent Brizzle.
The goals, which change along with the keepers, feature the much loved sites and emblems of Bristol such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Cabot Tower and hot air balloons. At the end of the game a link appears to go to the official Bristol2018.net website – where people can register their support for Bristol’s bid.
It’s hoped a link to the game will be forwarded amongst friends and colleagues and across social media websites. Players can enter their scores on the online leader board to compete with players everywhere.
Stephen Wray, Project Director for Bristol 2018, said:
“This game is great fun and highlights Bristol’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup. We know thousands of Bristolians are behind us, but to convince England 2018 we need them all to sign up and back the bid – either online at Bristol2018.net or by texting BRISTOL to 62018. I hope the game will take off and by forwarding it on, more and more people will back Bristol.”
The game has been developed by Bristol animation studio Wonky Films in support of Bristol’s bid. Vicky Brophy, Wonky’s Head of Digital said:
“We’ve a number of avid football fans in the studio and were delighted to do our bit to help promote Bristol’s bid. With Bristol’s diverse history of talent and culture it wasn’t hard to bring the game (and Justin Lee Collins’ hair) to life. We hope it will take Bristol one step closer to bringing the world cup here in 2018.”
“We hope to kick off a bit of competition too – we’ve included a leader board for those who want to get serious! In fact, we’d like to invite the top scorer to the WONKY studio for a cup of tea. So look out for the hidden points!.”
