NESTA

Pact has been working for some time to ensure digital producers get to retain their IP when they are commissioned by the public sector. The government announced a pilot within the Digital Britain Report and Pact will be working with NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) who will be managing it.

Publicly-owned organisations spend a lot of money on digital media (estimated approx £285m p.a.). NESTA will be launching a new pilot to develop, test and implement a new Intellectual Property Rights Framework for publicly procured digital media. The pilot will explore whether businesses who keep hold of some of their intellectual property can make money from it.

Prior to launching the pilot, NESTA is seeking to better understand how digital media companies currently use and exploit IP. They have produced an online digital media survey which should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.

Please take 5 minutes out of your busy day to complete the survey and do pass it on to colleagues and contacts.

If you would like to be invited to the launch event please include your email address in the ‘additional comments’ section at the end of the survey. The deadline for responses to the survey is Friday 27 November 2009.
