In the build up to the premier of the new Wallace and Gromit 30-minute feature, “A Matter of Loaf and Death”, Aardman Online created a promotional Flash game to ensure its promotion across the web.
In Top Bun players have to try to run the bakery successfully as things get more and more hectic.
Based on the antics in the new film you take control of Gromit as the orders begin to pile up ensuring the dough enters the right ovens, receives the correct topping, bakes on time and is placed in the van before it starts to burn. A variety of bakery upgrades and challenging demands tests your limit across 8 levels.
For launch the team at Aardman worked with a number of gaming portals to ensure a wide spread across the internet. Dan Efergan, Creative Director Online at Aardman, said “Luckily we’ve got a good relationship with some of the key portals, and as everyone loves Wallace and Gromit we were successful getting it seeded into key sites such as Candystand, NewGrounds and Kongragate.
From there it seems to have spread to many other portals, currently about 695 other hosts. This means some serious playing; up to now we have had over 2 million plays, getting over 150 thousand on one day alone.”
Candystand featured the game for launch, and it received the coveted ‘Awesome Score’ on Newgrounds.
One player commented: “Top Bun is one of the simplest but most challenging strategy games on Newgrounds. Heartbreakingly short it may be, but Wallace’s comic motivation and the classic Wallace and Gromit music goes perfectly with what is a great game while it lasts.”
