TV Highlights w/c Mon 2nd June 2008
Saturday 07th June 2008
Euro 2008 is now upon us, although sadly without representatives from any of the UK home nations. This will certainly dent the audiences that might have been expected for the tournament, which, at the last Euro tournament in 2004, peaked at 20.7m (72%) for England’s quarter-final clash with Portugal. However, the opening match, featuring host nation Switzerland v Czech Republic at 4.30pm on BBC1, attracted a respectable average audience of 3.5m (27.3%) and an above-average TI™ of 120.

Big Brother is watching us again, with Channel 4’s ‘reality’ show returning for its ninth series with Big Brother’s Launch Show from 9pm to 10:40pm. Last year’s series launch show gained an audience of 6.2m (25.4%) on 30 May 2007, with a series average of 3.7m (17.7%). Last night’s launch was slightly down, with 5.2m (24.2%) tuning-in (5.3m in total when the Channel 4+1 audience is included). However, the show continues to perform well for its timeslot and genre average, winning the timeslot with a massive TI™ of 202. The Big Brother Launch Night Project followed the launch show and gained an equally impressive TI™ of 192.1, with an audience of 1.9m (15.9%).

IWC Media’s property show, Location, Location, Location returned at 8pm on Channel 4, for the first in a new seven-part series. With the UK property market experiencing the worst slump since the early 1990s, the landscape is looking rather different for Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, and the emphasis in the first episode was on a much smaller budget than might have featured before. When the previous series went out in June to August 2007, it averaged audiences of 3.9m. Last night’s episode attracted a relatively modest 2.7m (13.2%), however, this was still enough to attract an above-average TI™ of 116.5.
