ITV1 gave BBC1 the slip on Sunday evening as a new series of Dancing on Ice helped it to a peak-time share of 26.7%, comfortably ahead of its nearest rival’s 21.3%. The show returned with a new batch of celebs getting their skates on at 5:50pm, including pop stars Gareth Gates and Samantha Mumba and tennis player Greg Rusedski. The two-hour performance show scored an emphatic 8.9m (36.1%), giving a TI™ score of 124. Series two also began with 8.9m last year. The 30-minute results show at 8:50pm averaged 7.7m (27.2%), giving a TI™ score of 110.

ITV1’s dinosaur-laden sci-fi drama Primeval returned for a second series on Saturday evening, moving into the 7 – 8pm slot to take over family drama duties from BBC1’s Robin Hood. The first series of the Impossible Pictures production averaged a very respectable 6.1m (27%) for its debut series last year. The second series got underway with 5.7m (24.9%), giving a TI™ score of 81. This was on a par with Robin Hood, though still a long way from ratings for Doctor Who.

Channel 4 has been crying foul over the way our food is produced this week, with Jamie Oliver picking up the mantle from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall on Friday evening to highlight conditions in the British poultry industry. Jamie hosted a gala dinner to bring together producers, consumers and experts (including the aforementioned Fearnley-Whittingstall, and bird expert Bill Oddie). As with School Dinners, Jamie managed to combine a social good with impressive ratings as Jamie’s Fowl Dinners attracted 3.7m (15.6%) between 9 – 10:35pm to give an excellent TI™ score of 208.
