Does Bristol need an elected Mayor to drive the city's agenda?

As the council colours change yet again and in fighting continues down on College Green, isn’t it about time that Bristol made plans to elect its own Mayor to drive the city forward?
All we need is a petition of 4000 people to instigate an election?

In principle this is a great idea but the thought of a “Boris Johnson” running the city leaves me a bit cold!
Yes I think Bristol needs its own Mayor, it might help stop BCC from making some of the very stupid mistakes that it does, like the development in the centre with the unnecessary, expensive, and quite frankly overall stupid, fountains!!!. Maybe a dedicated mayor could sort out the transport as well.
