Social Issues, Documentaries and Debates at the Watershed
As part of Bristol’s Festival of Ideas 2008, Watershed is delighted to present Social Issues – Documentaries and Debates, a series of talks and events which touch on the big issues affecting public life.
At a time when there is renewed opposition to the destruction of our planet, globalisation and war, the season will trace the thread of creative resistance established over the last forty years, addressing the ways in which today’s activists are pushing for social and cultural change. In addition to an uncompromising programme of screenings, we welcome expert speakers to encourage debate and discuss our collective response to these emerging global crises.
Mark Cosgrove, Watershed’s Head of Cultural Programme, says of the season:
“Increasingly, cinema – through documentaries – is showing us the radical effects of ‘man’ on the planet – from corporate corruption to globalisation and climate change, and this season, as part of Festival of Ideas, demonstrates the scale and urgency of the issues.”
