Major publication announced to promote Bristol's creative industries

0117 coverBristol Media has today announced major new plans to create a 250 page high-quality ‘annual’ to help promote Bristol as one of the UK’s leading creative cities.

The publication, entitled ‘0117 – Made in Bristol’, will launch this September and will feature over 300 of Bristol’s leading design, digital, animation and marketing companies along with interviews and in depth features on many of the city’s creative entrepreneurs and movers and shakers.

Made In BristolPete Levy, Vice-Chair of Bristol Media said:

“The annual will be based around people, places and events and will draw together a collection of the best stories and most inspiring personalities from across the different creative sectors to highlight the sheer diversity and depth of Bristol’s creative landscape”.

He continued:

“Everything from the major employers such as Endemol and the BBC to the one man bands designing web sites in their bedroom and the hottest fashion designers leaving university will be featured in the publication.”

The publication will also include a comprehensive A-Z directory of Bristol creative companies, a roundup of the previous 12 ‘creative months’ in Bristol and a ‘Ones to Watch’ student section.

Chris Jones founding partner of design agency Oakwood DC and Bristol Media director stated:

“0117 will not only act as a fantastic marketing tool to help promote Bristol to the rest of the world but most importantly it will meet several very real and tangible business objectives. It will help the companies and individuals featured build their profile to help them win new work, commissions and projects and attract more creative people to the city, which is in everyone’s interest.”

Over 30,000 copies of the publication will be produced and sent to the UK’s leading marketing directors, national media editors and journalists, regional and national government and a lot of the key creative agencies across London.

Andy Parkhouse from digital group, Team Rubber commented:

“There’s so much fantastic creative activity going on in Bristol, it’s just we don’t really shout about it as much as we should. We need to market the city more and projects like 0117 will help us take some of Bristol’s creative success stories to a much wider audience.”

“The idea has been on the cards for over 2 years and came out of a meeting when 15 of the cities leading creative agencies got together to discuss some of the challenges we faced growing our businesses here in Bristol. We all agreed that there were two significant barriers to growth, we found it hard to recruit senior staff and attract them to Bristol and we were frustrated with the lack of city marketing. Both elements were clearly linked.”

He continued:

“So we thought, what the hell, lets get off our backsides and do something about it ourselves and came up with the idea of 0117.”

The project has been backed by South West RDA, Bristol City Council, Watershed’s Bristol+ initiative and SWScreen.

Chris Garcia, Head of Creative Industries at South West RDA said:

“The RDA are delighted to support this exciting project to highlight the range of creative businesses in the city, and to promote the tremendous range of talent and skills, to markets around the world.”

Integrated publishing company, Wildfire Communications are producing the annual and an editorial team will be created from a cross section of the city’s creative industries to decide on the annual’s final content.
