Bristol Media Companies short-listed in Media Innovation Awards

Six Bristol-based media companies have been short-listed in the nominations for the 2008 Media Innovation Awards.

The awards received a record 96 entries from across the region – up 50 per cent on last year – and the judges have shortlisted 40 entries, six of which come from Bristol.

Entries were invited from new media companies across the whole of the South West, and were supported by the media cluster groups for the region including Bristol Media.

Karen Stockdale of the award organisers, Plymouth Media-Partnership, says she’s delighted at the quality and diversity of entries this year, “The judges really had their work cut out deciding which entries to shortlist.

“The quality of entries was very high and the fact that so many of the short-listed companies come from Bristol shows the high standard of media companies in this part of the region.”

The awards recognise the innovative use of screen-based media in the region, and members of the cluster groups from Cornwall through to Dorset and Gloucestershire were invited to enter the 15 categories. Bristol is represented in 4 of those in the shortlist.

The local companies nominated are:

Television: Available Light – Building Wonders for ITV West

Mobile: Mobile Pie in association with Hands On Mobile and Luke Bennett – Snap Happy and Junction YK for The Interactory for the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust

Multiplatform: Licorice Film in association with HP Labs, Watershed, University of the West of England, and Jonathan Williams and funded by Arts Council England and South West Screen – Meigeist and Available Light for Brunel’s Britain for Teachers TV and Grid Learning

Screen graphics: BDH for Seven Ages of Rock for BBC Television and BBC On line

The winners will be announced at a gala award ceremony in Plymouth on 14 March.
