Bristol-based Polyphonic Films release HD opera
Bristol-based Polyphonic Films, which was formed in 2005 to create innovative artistic-led broadcast projects in the field of classical and contemporary music, have secured a preview screening of The Full Monteverdi at the Southbank on Friday 14 September.
The film by John La Bouchardière featuring award-winning vocal ensemble I Fagiolini, began life as a site-specific live performance which has toured globally since 2004. Set in a restaurant, the film is based on Monteverdi’s fourth book of madrigals (generally accepted as the finest collection of unaccompanied vocal music ever written) and explores the emotional state of lovers at different stages of break-up.
Filmed on HD, The Full Monteverdi is scheduled for world-wide release on DVD by NAXOS later in 2007, with ensuing broadcasts already planned by S4C (Wales), SkyArts (UK), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), CTV (Czech Republic) and The Arts Channel (New Zealand). The film was produced by Silicon 19 Media and also received funding through South West Screen’s Alliance programme.
