Television Highlights w/c 30th July 2007
Monday 30th July 2007
Ten years after the tragic death of Princess Diana, intrigue and uncertainty still surround the events of the fateful night on 31st August 1997. Five sets out to shed some light on the topic with Diana: Last Days of a Princess, a two-hour ‘dramatic recreation’ of the final days of the Princess, interspersed with interviews with eyewitnesses and those who knew her. The Dangerous Films production aired from 9 – 11pm, averaging 1.5m (7.5%). This was a strong performance for a factual-based programme on Five, with a TI™ score of 159.
Wednesday 01st August 2007
Wire In The Blood _(9 – 10:30pm) finished its four-part run on ITV1 last night with 4.9m (24.1%). This was consistent with episodes 2 and 3, but a significant decrease on the 5.9m who watched the first episode in this series. The arrival of _Heroes in the 9pm slot on BBC2 last week has not helped its cause, and it is noticeable that BBC1 put out a repeat of Waking The Dead in this slot last night. Wire In The Blood did enough to win the slot, with Heroes and Big Brother also putting in strong performances to leave the Waking The Dead repeat on BBC1 trailing in fourth place with 2.4m (11.6%).
Sunday 05th August 2007
Sky One was having a laugh on Sunday as it lined up a double-bill of US comedies, starting at 10pm with the debut of the second series of Weeds. It’s been a year and a half since fans of this satirical show were left hanging on a plot-line, as protagonist Nancy (the pot-selling mom) slept with a Drug Enforcement officer. The end of series 1 back in December 2005 drew 177,900 viewers and a 1.3% share, but maybe 18 months was too long to wait as series 2 started with 108,290 (0.7%).
