ITV1’s latest Saturday night entertainment format, Sing It Back: Lyric Champion 2007, ended its three-part run last night. The short series started with 3.2m (17.4%) on the 7th July, before plummeting to 1.9m (13.3%) for its second outing. The performance of the final show was therefore better than expected as it attracted 3.1m (18.1%) between 6:40 – 7:40pm – not spectacular, but at least it returned Sing It Back to the audience it began with. This was despite the fact that, due to a re-jigged BBC1 schedule, Sing It Back started at exactly the same time as the second instalment of talent show DanceX. The latter had a bit of a stumble this week, averaging 4.3m (25.1%) compared to the 4.8m (32.3%) of the opening week.

BBC1 soap EastEnders has been hatching up a plot-line around the tricky subject of child abuse for many weeks now, and Friday’s instalment marked the climax as Phil and Stella’s wedding day arrived. The wedding was interrupted (not unusual in soaps) as Phil’s son Ben revealed Stella’s true character, and Phil looked set to murder his bride to be, rather than marry her. For anyone that watches the show it was a must-see episode, and this was reflected in an audience of 9.5m (44.9%). This was an increase of 1.4m over the previous Friday’s episode, and it was February when the Friday instalment EastEnders last attracted this many viewers.

BBC2 teed off its live coverage of the Open Golf tournament from Carnoustie with a marathon 11 hours of action beginning at 9am. There was a mini-peak in the audience around lunchtime with 0.9m watching at 1:45pm, and ratings then picked up again in the late afternoon as people got home from work/school to hit a high of 1.8m between 5:30pm and 6pm. BBC2 enjoyed good share figures all day, peaking at 16.7% at 12:30. BBC2 now looks set to enjoy a ratings boost as the tournament gets into full swing.
