BBC Radio Bristol beat Smith Williamson Solomon Hare 3-0 to become the overall winners of Bristol Media’s first ever five-a-side football tournament, after defeating Cherry D and 7 Gigs in the semis.

It was a tough trek to the final for both teams. The competition, at Clifton College’s sports ground, took place in blazing sunshine and with 24 squads all eager to go home with the cup.

Someone other than a woman who hasn’t attended a football match in 25 years would no doubt comment on the stylishness of the play, the quality of the goals and the sportspersonish attitude on display but beggars can’t be choosers. So suffice it to say that

  • much fun was had by all,
  • Paul Appleby and Chris Jones deserve medals for the effort they put into ensuring the faultless organisation and tight time-keeping,
  • one chap from 361 Films scored nine goals in a single game,
  • if we’d thought of it, Oakwood Design would have got the prize for snazziest strip;
  • If we’d thought of it, the BBC’s The Animals would have won the Jolliest Outfits award
  • there is already a clamour for the event to be repeated.

Photos from the tourney will be added to our Flickr book, if they aren’t there already, that is.
