Sunday 01st July 2007
BBC1’s live coverage of the Concert for Diana between 3:30pm and 10:25pm (over-running from 10pm) dominated Sunday’s viewing. The first half averaged 6.8m (42.4%) between 3:30pm and 7pm, with performances from Elton John and Duran Duran getting things underway. The rest of the line-up included legends such as Tom Jones, Bryan Ferry, Status Quo and Rod Stewart, together with newer acts such as Joss Stone, Nelly Furtado, Lily Allen and Kanye West (to name but a few). The peak audience was a staggering 14.8m (60.2%) which came at 10pm, when Ricky Gervais was forced to extend his intro to an Elton John performance by doing the David Brent dance due to a technical hitch delaying the show’s climax.
Saturday 30th June 2007
The latest series of Doctor Who finished on a high last night with 8m (39.1%) tuning in to BBC1 between 7:05 and 7:55pm. This was the highest rating since episode 3 on the 14th April, bringing the series average to 7m (37.5%). This was similar to the last series in 2006, which averaged 7.2m (39.1%).
Monday 25th June 2007
Most of the UK has suffered the type of deluge which can only mean the start of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Despite the downpours there was some play on the opening day, featuring Tim Henman (Britain’s only ‘star’ for the tournament following an injury to Andy Murray). Henman’s first-round match against Carlos Moya overran in the evening due to the rain-delayed start, and the live coverage on BBC2 peaked at 4.4m (19.2%) at 9pm. The match has spilled over into Tuesday, which will at least keep British interest alive until the second day.
