Following my blog on the departure of Sue Brookes, conratualtions are in order for Paul at Bristol’s Star FM for turning around some disapointing RAJAR results. Bristol’s Star 107.2FM Radio is now sitting at the top slot as having the country’s most loyal listeners. The latest listening figures published by Ipsos (RAJAR Qtr 3 2007) show that Bristol’s Star FM Radio has an increased audience who listen on average for nearly 15 hours every week, the highest average hours of any FM commercial station in mainland Britain.

A new programming line up and management team, headed up by Paul Kurnyta, has been recently announced and has already started to take the station to new heights.

“This is a fantastic accolade for Star Radio and for the city of Bristol,” said Paul Kurnyta, Star FM’s new Station Manager. “We have managed to claim the top slot for the first time and its Bristol that is leading the way, and it is a great achievement for our team,” he said.

I met Tom Hunter of Original FM and Steve Jones of GWR on the SS Great Britain last week and both tried to shrug the news off. GWR are the leaders of the pack and Orginal are claiming 50,000 listeners will be regestered in their first Rajar results, due shortly, which would put them in second slot. Only time will tell what will happen to Bristol’s radio market, but with a resurgent Star and news boys Orginal on the block, expect an interesting time. Watch this space!
I
