Icon's Matt reaches top of the pecking order
Congratulations to offline editor Matt Meech who picked up the Best Editing Award for Bristol’s Icon Film’s natural history documentary ‘Paranormal Pigeons’ at the 2007 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in the US last week.
In this film, transmitted by Five and Animal Planet last year, experts from around the world attempt to unlock homing secrets with a little help from the humble pigeon whose talent for finding its way home from remote, unfamiliar release sites is legendary.
The judges at Jackson agreed that Matt’s skilful and sensitive editing turned a complicated subject into a coherent and highly entertaining film about the fringes of natural history knowledge.
“Paranormal Pigeons was a fascinating programme to edit” says Matt, “It was vital that the narrative of the film dealt with the various complex theories of navigation in an entertaining and fresh way and that meant making sure all the contributors, flesh and feathered, were able to express their own colourful characteristics.”
Bill Broyles, writer of Hollywood hits Apollo 13 and Castaway and guest judge at the festival, also singled out Paranormal Pigeons’ writer Harry Marshall’s beautifully and coherently written script for praise. http://www.iconfilms.co.uk
